Can You Look to the Past For a Better Future?

So, for many who know me well, 2011 to 2017 were not stellar years. Heck, I am not sure if things have truly clicked for me since 2007, but that is another can of worms to open in a separate post.

I have lost many people close to me, and yet, with friends and faith in many other positive things, I have persevered. I am not sure what triggered it, but I believe it is finally time for some reflection. I have had so many people ask me why I am not out there dating again, that I finally had to step back and ask myself that question as well. One thing I have come up with is that it is hard to take down a wall that you built yourself, to protect your own heart, and when you can’t exactly remember how it was constructed in the first place. In talking with a good friend of mine, he suggested that I contact my ex-boyfriends and ask them to come clean and tell me why they left. At first, I thought this idea was crazy – I mean, if they couldn’t tell me then why they broke up with me, when they did, why would they be honest about it now?

But then, I took a step back and thought about if the tables were reversed and one of my past beaus wanted to ask me about the relationship, would I answer? Truthfully, I would answer – and be open and honest (but to be fair, I always am honest to a fault). I think it is a good thing to try to learn as much as you can from your past experiences to make your future that much better. So, as I am about to embark on this serious journey of self-discovery – I turn to you. If you could ask your past loves about what went wrong, would you? And if you would, what would you ask? Would you be ready to face the whole truth, warts and all?

I believe I am …
